When she entered and stood listening to the introductory words, she looked a little dazed. But when she began to sing, the stage belonged entirely to her, Ruth Wilhelmine Meyer. Her vocals transported the audience into the atmosphere of ECM – Nordic, spacious, full of breath and contemplation. She is my star of the evening. I saw her for the first time and knew nothing about her before. If I could, I would kneel before her. Her voice – six octaves, madness, originality, courage, and at the same time, no pretentiousness. When necessary – a nightingale, when she wants – a Tasmanian devil. She can do anything. She is absolute.
