I see myself as a storyteller, using music to tell stories written in sound. I started my studies at the Grieg academy in Bergen, before going to the Mozarteum, the Music Academy in Salzburg, Austria. In this period I spent a lot of time researching the underground music of Prague, and later I continued my explorations in music working with the Inuits of Northern Canada. Since then I have been a traveller in sound and continue my research and exploration of the following: The musical ornamentation of the Baroque The vocal warmth and rawness in deep breath throat sounds of the North Canadian Inuits Imitations of the sounds of the Northern Siberian nature The subtle trembling of Northern Telemark folk singers The sonorous tones of Armenian sacred songs The abundance of opera The winds whisperings and the variety of the singing birds The endless varieties of the baby’s sound
These are some of the materials I incorporate for my own stories of sound |
